Match Report #2

The teams could not be separated, and neither could they score, after the allotted 10 minutes of the Final. The Golden Goal method of deciding the game's fate was then employed, but with an Allstars twist. Each team would have to retire an outfield player for every 5 minutes the scores remained level. It actually went down to what was effectively 2-man 'cuppies'. The WebMaster vaguely remembers the southern contingent at University mistakenly calling this playground favourite, 'Wembley', but we digress…

The extra-time golden goal finally came from the impressive feet of the youngster, Andrew Perrin, playing alongside Dave Holborn with Sid in their goals. The combined and final efforts of Billy, John, and the last standing Andy (Mansfield) ultimately proved fruitless.

The Final: Team 'B' 0 Team 'C' 1

Team 'C' were the winners, though Team 'B' could claim some moral victory having 'won' the mini-league on goal difference. Indeed, even Team 'A' could argue their case for being worthy combatants, having only conceded the same number of goals as eventual winners 'C'. A little more luck and, perhaps a touch more finesse from Max and Jack with their first touch of the ball, and it could have been a very different story.

There may have been no 11-a-side on a grass pitch, but nothing was going to stop the Allstars penalty competition. Many more players got a touch of the Team 'A' about them when faced with this challenge, as the photos on the 2012 homepage highlight.

Andy Nockton Penalty

Penalty 1 - Back after 20 years, and with a cry of "Remember me now!?", Andy Nockton calmly slots one past a hapless Sid.

Sid's Penalty

Penalty 2 - Buoyed by many penalty saves, Sid heroically fails in his attempt to beat his opposite number, Billy.

This year's Golden Boot for Man of the Match was awarded to hot-shot Craig McKinlay for his goal scoring prowess, closely challenged by previous winner John Gilligan who had to hand over the now California-based Si Water's old Puma boot.

Golden Boot award - After a fine goal scoring performance, and making up for missing out in last year's 10 Cap award, Craig proudly receives The Boot.
