Sid to save the day

Danger for the Tangerines, as Sid prepares to save.

Midway through Q3, a Sheff header at the back post from an Andy K corner gave Team Billy a 1-0 lead. Steve 'Hendo' Henderson attempted to out-Nureyev Graham with a mid-air volley to double the lead, but to the relief of Sid managed to swipe more air than ball. Graham was unlucky with another fine shot, after debutant Andy R put in an inch perfect cross from the right, which GJ caught flush only for Billy to pull off a wonder save with the ball going in top left. Deslick and Hendo, busy chatting in the centre-circle, both admitted to exclaiming 'goal' whilst the shot was mid-flight, before the fish-like keeper did his magic. Mince fell back into the 'hole, and tried to keep the Tangerines pressing forward, but was more often than thwarted by his less than precise distribution skills, at one point attempting to thread a pass to Graham with his right foot only for the ball to deflect off his left boot.

Hendos Ballet

Steve 'Nureyev' Henderson lays prone, as Sid chuckles.

With tiredness creeping in (amongst the adults anyway), more goals were conceded in the final 20 minutes. First, Mark Halliwell aggressively brushed aside his 12 year old marker to give The Grapes a 2-0 lead from a nice Sheff defence splitting through ball. John had just failed to get a decisive tackle in on his midfield opponent after falling down, what he estimated was, the quarry sized hole in the middle of the pitch whilst running backwards.

Markey Mark

Mark H begins another mazy run.

Graham Jackson, playing his best game for years, quickly pegged one back for the Tangerines, nicely volleying back a defensive clearance from a dangerous Mince corner. However, against the run of play, Andy Kit sealed the game near the end pouncing on a stray ball in the six-yard box from a headed clearance. Mince had leaped salmon-like above Hendo to head out a cross, but as the WebMaster descended to the ground he tumbled backwards over a now prone Hendo who had tried to win the heading contest with a dive. The WebMaster could only turn in horror to see Andy's strike hit the net past a helpless Sid.

Cookie Rises

Cookie heads away.
